Education Dept Seeks ₹21cr for Tarnaka Girls School Building
The High Court had earlier sought a response from the department, following which the counter affidavit was filed
Hyderabad: The School Education Department on Thursday informed the Telangana High Court that it had sought ₹21 crore from the state government under the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) initiative for construction of a permanent building for the Government Girls Primary School at Tarnaka.
The submission came in response to a writ petition filed by parents of students of Government Girls Primary School, Seethaphalmandi-II, alleging that classes were being held in an unsafe and dilapidated structure over six decades old.
In a counter affidavit, the district educational officer, Hyderabad, stated that the school has been functioning since 1960 on premises belonging to the Telangana State Dairy Development Cooperative Federation (Vijaya dairy) and caters to students from nearby localities, including Hanumannagar, Gokulnagar, Errakunta slum and Tarnaka. It said there was no other government school in the vicinity.
The affidavit cited a report by the deputy inspector of schools, Maredpally, following an inspection on March 5, 2026, which found the building in a highly dilapidated condition, with classroom roofs deteriorated and unsafe for use. It also noted that the surrounding dairy quarters were being vacated, making continuation of the school at the present site difficult.
Pending construction of a new building, the department said permission had been granted to shift students temporarily to the Government Primary School at Aaryavatika, Lalapet, about 1.5 km away, from the academic year 2026-27 beginning June 12.
The petitioners sought directions to allot around five acres of land from the dairy federation for construction of a new school and to safeguard the interests of students. The High Court had earlier sought a response from the department, following which the counter affidavit was filed.
