Durgam Cheruvu Entry Closed Today
The closure comes days after fishermen reported losing tonnes of fish allegedly due to sewage leakage into the lake.
Hyderabad: Durgam Cheruvu will remain closed to visitors on September 11 as the HMWS&SB takes up maintenance works to improve facilities at the lake premises. Entry was also closed on Thursday. The HMWS&SB and the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) subsequently conducted a joint inspection and identified four major sewage inlets —Madhapur I&D nala, Silent Valley I&D nala, Vitthal Rao Nagar box nala and a route from the TGIIC layout.
Officials said the sewage treatment plant at Durgam Cheruvu was operating at full capacity. However, rapid growth in residential areas and population has increased sewage generation, while monsoon flows further aggravated the problem, they said. The HMWS&SB and CMC have decided to study the topography and hydrology of the surrounding areas and prepare a permanent action plan involving sewage diversion, treatment and other technical measures.
