DRI Seizes 27.15 kgs of Hydroponic Weed worth Rs.9.5 Cr at RGIA

The DRI arrested persons including four international passengers and three of their associates in connection with the case

Hyderabad: Officers of the Hyderabad zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 27.15 kgs of hydroponic weed worth Rs.9.5 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad. The DRI arrested persons including four international passengers and three of their associates in connection with the case.

Acting on specific intelligence, the DRI officers mounted surveillance at the arrival centre at RGIA. At around 1.15 am, four Indian international passengers arriving from Bangkok by Thai Airways flight were intercepted along with three other persons during the process of handing over their check-in baggage.

On systematic examination of the check-in baggage of the passengers, multiple packets containing greenish-brown lumpy substance concealed inside trolley bags were recovered. The recovered substance, weighing a total of 27.15 kgs, tested positive for ganja, using a narcotic drug detection kit.

Accordingly, 27.15 Kgs of hydroponic weed was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. All the seven accused persons involved in the case have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is under progress.
