Hyderabad: Drainage overflows have emerged as the leading complaint in the city, according to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). With the continuing rains, the situation has worsened, leaving several localities flooded with sewage. Many residents have taken to X to highlight the problem.

In Padma Nagar, Quthbullapur, residents have been facing an overflow for two days. “We are unable to step out because of the stench and filth. Commuting has become difficult. Authorities must act immediately,” said R. Pavan Kumar, a resident.

At Madannapet, near Fatima Masjid, sewage stagnation has raised health concerns. “The drainage water is a serious risk to our families. It needs urgent attention,” said Khalid Khan, a resident.

In Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Balanagar division, residents alleged inaction despite repeated complaints. “For the past week, sewage has been flowing on the roads. This is a permanent issue that the department has failed to solve,” said Mohammed Fayak.

On social media, users flagged similar grievances. “The sewerage overflows 24/7, causing slip hazards. Can’t this be fixed permanently?” posted Bharat, pointing to the stretch between PVR Atrium Mall and ORR X-road in Gachibowli. Another resident reported a kilometre-long overflow in Kondapur’s KMR Estates, while complaints also came from Vasantnagar, Patigadda and Begumpet.

When asked about the complaints, a senior HMWS&SB official said, “We are attending to complaints on priority. Our emergency teams are acting swiftly, but heavy rains are causing frequent overflows. Long-term measures are underway to upgrade the system and reduce such incidents.”
