Hyderabad: The BRS on Saturday appealed to farmers to not take their own lives. Party working president K.T. Rama Rao, and senior leader T. Harish Rao assured the farmers that the BRS would stand with them and fight for their welfare.

In a statement, senior party leader and former minister T. Harish Rao expressed dismay saying a farmer, Mamilla Narasaiah, took his life in Varthamannur in Adilabad district.

“This is the fourth such incident in different parts of the erstwhile unified Adilabad district. Farmers, when one after another, are taking their lives, what is the state government doing? Both the local and state administrations are watching silently at these distress related deaths,” Harish Rao said.

“While Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is making tall claims that farm loan waiver has been completed, farmers are taking their lives unable to repay their loans. The government must take responsibility for these deaths and give `10 lakh as ex-gratia to the affected families,” Harish Rao said.

Rama Rao said “It is unfortunate that Narsaiah took his life because his farm loan was not paid off as promised by the government. After the government put welfare of farmers on top of its agenda for 10 years under the leadership of KCR, the condition of farmers has deteriorated in just one year of the Congress government. The BRS stands with farmers and will fight for their rights.”
