Doctor Saves Elderly Passenger Mid-Air on Delhi-Hyderabad Flight
CPR was performed on a 74-year-old man mid-flight; the passenger was revived, stabilized, and rushed to a hospital upon landing in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad: A 74-year-old passenger survived a cardiac emergency mid-air on a Delhi- Hyderabad flight, thanks to the timely intervention of a city-based doctor who performed life-saving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) early on Sunday.
Dr Preethi Reddy, a general physician travelling on the aircraft, stepped in to help upon noticing the passenger’s distress. “After assessing his condition and identifying a likely cardiac complication, I found the pulse to be feeble and immediately began administering CPR,” she said. “The passenger responded within a few minutes. The cabin crew and fellow passengers were very supportive throughout the situation,” she explained.
“After regaining consciousness, he told about his history of hypertension and cardiac angioplasty. I administered the necessary medications from the onboard medical kit. The air hostess was standing next to him all through the journey,” Dr Reddy said.
The crew informed the Shamshabad airport authorities. They kept an emergency medical team and an ambulance ready. Upon arrival, the patient was taken to a hospital, Dr Reddy informed.
Fellow passengers and airline staff applauded the doctor’s swift response and the seamless teamwork between the crew and passengers that helped save a life at 39,000 feet.
