DMHO Orders Inquiry into Premature Babies’ Death
DMHO orders inquiry into alleged negligence at Ibrahimpatnam hospital; police and medical council alerted
Hyderabad: The Rangareddy district medical and health officer (DMHO) Dr Venkateshwar Rao ordered an inquiry into unqualified nurses operating on an emergency case, which resulted in the death of two premature babies at Vijayalaxmi Hospital in Ibrahimpatnam limits.
“The gynaecologist is a qualified MS doctor but she is now facing allegations that she was not available. A detailed inquiry will be conducted and the Medical Council will be informed of the incident. When the doctor was not available, she did not refer the case to other hospitals or the doctors. Accordingly, the hospital is seized,” said Dr Venkateshwar Rao.
Dr V. Anusha Reddy has been operating the 10-bed hospital for three years. She resides at Vanasthalipuram, which is almost 10 km away from the hospital, and allegedly diagnosed the emergency over a call.
The DMHO , clarified that “there are no restrictions for private doctors to stay within a certain distance from the workplace. Government doctors, however, need to stay within 10 to 12 km of distance.”
The victim’s husband Bhutti Ganesh said that the doctor was not available at the time of the emergency and unqualified nurses attended the case. He argued that it was pure negligence on part of the doctor as she did not pay attention to his wife’s complaints about bleeding and pain and demanded action against her. The police are also probing into the case.
