Disha Students Mark Bhagat Singh’s 119th Birth Anniversary with Talks on Caste, Rights and Inequality
Disha member Hariprasad addressed students on the Arts College premises about the circumstances in which Bhagat Singh developed his political thought.
Hyderabad:Disha Students’ Organisation organised programmes at Osmania University (OU) and Ashoknagar on Bhagat Singh’s 119th birth anniversary, where its members spoke about his writings on caste and communalism and linked his ideas to democratic rights, workers’ struggles and economic inequality.
Disha member Hariprasad addressed students on the Arts College premises about the circumstances in which Bhagat Singh developed his political thought. He recalled Bhagat Singh’s view that “revolution does not come through bombs and pistols” and said students should study his writings closely instead of limiting education to the search for jobs.
Near the NCC Gate, Mahipal accused the BJP-RSS government of curbing democratic rights and criticised the SIR process. He also referred to Disha members Yogesh, Aakriti and Himanshu, who, he said, participated in the workers’ struggle for minimum wages at Noida near Delhi and were later jailed after cases were filed against them.
Yashwant addressed civil services aspirants near IAS coaching institutes in Ashoknagar and questioned whether people could serve society through a system that, according to him, favoured profit-seeking interests.
He also cited figures that he said showed 1,816 wealthy individuals controlled 50 per cent of the country’s wealth, while the bottom half owned 6 per cent. Questioning such inequality, he said, would be a true tribute to Bhagat Singh.
