ADILABAD: Khanapur MLA Vedma Bojju on Friday inaugurated four digital forest check posts in the Kawal Tiger Reserve by flagging off vehicles for the collection of environment cess from those passing through the reserve.

The check posts have been established at Kothaguda, Indhanpalli, Pandhavpur and Thapalpur to regulate vehicular movement and collect charges. The Forest department will levy Rs 50 on cars and four-wheelers, Rs 150 on vehicles with six wheels and above, and Rs 300 on heavily loaded and agricultural procurement trucks, including paddy. Two-wheelers and autos are exempt.

Bojju said vehicles belonging to residents of the Khanapur Assembly constituency would be exempted from the cess and allowed to pass without restriction.

The MLA had earlier opposed the operation of the digital check posts over the lack of exemption for local vehicles.

Forest officials, including Adilabad DFO Prashanth Bhajirao Patil, Jannaram FDO Rammohan, Mancherial DFO Rahul Kishan Jadhav, Nirmal DFO Sushanth Sukhdev Gobade, Khanapur FDO Shivakumar, Utnoor FDO K.Aravind and others, were present.
