DGP Anand Launches TG-VEER to Support Police Martyrs’ Families
He wanted educational institutions to be proactive in keeping students away from drugs
WARANGAL: Naxalism, which had once been a major challenge in Telangana, has disappeared. Rehabilitating those who have surrendered has emerged as a new challenge for the government, said Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand on Sunday.
Speaking to the media after visiting the Warangal Police Commissionerate and attending a crime review meeting on Sunday, he said the experience of police personnel who played a key role in eliminating Naxalism would now be utilised to tackle emerging problems faced by society. In this regard, he mentioned the spread of cybercrime, narcotic drugs, and adulteration of food.
Underlining that the police are adopting stringent measures to curb these activities, the DGP asked youth to remain vigilant and stay away from narcotic drugs. He wanted educational institutions to be proactive in keeping students away from drugs.
Anand met the families of 28 police martyrs who lost their lives while fighting Naxalism and inquired about their problems. Recalling his early years of service in the Warangal region when Naxalism had been at its peak, he pointed out that police personnel had worked under extremely difficult conditions, including attacks, surprise assaults, and encounters.
The DGP maintained that the current peaceful atmosphere and improved law and order in the Warangal region is largely built on the sacrifices of police martyrs. “They placed their duty above their own lives and can never be forgotten,” he stated.
On the day, he launched the TG-VEER special grievance portal to ensure speedy resolution of problems faced by the families of police martyrs. Families can register their grievances relating to ex-gratia, financial assistance, compassionate appointments, house-site allotments, land registration, title issues, pensions, and other matters through the portal.
Anand revealed that the portal has been designed in such a way that senior officers from the unit level to the state level can monitor the progress of grievance redressal. He distributed identity cards carrying QR codes to the families of police martyrs using which they can directly access the portal and register their grievances.
On their behalf, family members of the martyrs put forth their several long-pending issues, including ex-gratia, financial assistance, house sites, land registration, and pensions. The DGP assured them that he would take up the issues with the government and work towards their resolution. He directed Warangal police commissioner N. Swetha to personally monitor the problems of martyrs’ families.
Later, Anand inspected the new Warangal Police Commissionerate building, which is nearing completion. Officials briefed him about its progress. He directed officials to ensure that the new office is designed to provide better services to the public.
Those present included IG (Intelligence) Karthikeya, Warangal police commissioner N. Swetha, SP Sindhu Sharma, additional collector Ravi, additional SPs Vinod and Shyam Babu, and Cyber Crime, CCTNS, T-Eagle Force, and CID SPs Rupesh, Sai Sri, Giridhar, and Srinivas Reddy, among others.
