Nalgonda: Agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Thursday said the State government was taking up development works based on local requirements, irrespective of political considerations.

Laying the foundation stone for BT and CC roads in Gopalapuram of Khammam city at an estimated cost of ₹2.25 crore, he said the government was sanctioning development works to address civic issues in towns and villages, improve living conditions and create a healthy environment. Political considerations were never taken into account while approving development works, he said, adding that infrastructure projects were being taken up across Khammam city to meet public needs.

Referring to law and order, the minister said the government was acting firmly against land grabbers, ganja smugglers and rowdies, in line with promises made during the elections. He expressed concern over reports of ganja-laced chocolates being sold to children, warning that such practices were ruining young lives. Public cooperation was essential to curb drug peddlers who were exploiting youth for easy money, he said.

Stating that the State government had already sanctioned ₹50 crore for the development of Khammam city, Rao said another ₹50 crore would be released in January 2026. The funds would be utilised for works that directly benefit city residents. He stressed that elected representatives and officials must closely supervise projects to ensure quality and timely completion.

The minister fixed a three-month deadline for completion of development works in Gopalapuram and said additional funds could be sought only after ongoing works were completed. He underlined the need to improve drinking water supply and other civic amenities, noting that Khammam’s population had crossed five lakh.

He observed that leaders who actively supervised development works in their divisions would earn public goodwill and support in future municipal elections. He urged representatives to highlight local issues to officials and work towards solutions beyond political differences.

Khammam Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhishek Augustya and officials from various departments accompanied the minister.
