Dengue cases due to mosquito menace are on the rise following poor sanitation in urban areas of the erstwhile Adilabad district. A large number of people are visiting the government and private hospitals for treatment. Their blood tests are revealing decreased platelets.

The highest number of dengue cases has been reported in Adilabad Municipality, while Mancherial district accounts for 17 dengue-positive cases.

Patients include children with high fevers.

Dengue symptoms are high temperatures for several days, which take a downward trend once treatment commences.

Officials of the Medical and Health Department in Mancherial said of the 17 patients, 10 are students studying in Hyderabad who have come to their native places after they fell ill in the state capital.

Integrated Disease Surveillance (IDS) teams are collecting blood samples from patients in PHCs and sending them for testing to district headquarters nearest to them.

There are allegations that some Health department officials are hiding dengue-positive cases by not confirming them officially. They maintain that dengue cases can be confirmed only after ELISA tests are performed at government medical institutes.

Adilabad district Medical and Health department has reported as many as 121 dengue-positive cases from January 2026. 47 cases have been recorded in October, 48 in September, and 20 in August. 69 of the cases have been reported by primary health centres of urban areas like Ankoli, Putlibowli, and Shantinagar in Adilabad municipality.

Patients with dengue are being regularly admitted in considerable numbers in RIMS, Adilabad. They have been recovering in three to four days before being discharged. No critical cases have been reported yet.
