Delimitation: GHMC’s Window for Objections Closed
The final notification is expected by December 31, the day the boundaries of all administrative units will be frozen for over one year for Census 2026
Hyderabad: Shaikpet and OU Colony have a quirky tale to tell, in the proposed delimitation of divisions. The draft proposal splits Shaikpet ward into two Shaikpet and OU Colony. Strangely, OU Colony is a part of Shaikpet division, but Shaikpet
village is a part of OU Colony division.
“I request the GHMC to make the changes,” said Mohammed Rashed Farazuddin, AIMIM corporator of Shaikpet.
This is among the 5,905 objections and suggestions that the GHMC has received on the preliminary ward delimitation notification. After taking them into consideration, the GHMC will finalise the delimitation of 300 wards in the mega-corporation formed by the merger of 27 urban local bodies and the GHMC recently.
The window for filing objections closed on Friday. The final notification is expected by December 31, the day the boundaries of all administrative units will be frozen for over one year for Census 2026.
Apart from giving nightmares to corporators, who will lose areas they cultivated for elections, the delimitation exercise has also rubbed resident welfare associations in a wrong way. For instance, Monda Market and its surrounding areas do not feature in the ward named ‘Monda Market’. However upscale areas like West Marredpally and East Marredpally will be in the Monda Market division, which residents have opposed.
“All places that have historical significance are no longer a part of the Monda Market ward. They have now become a part of the Bansilalpet ward,” said BJP corporator Kontham Deepika.
Maj. G Shiva Kiran (retd), founder of Sukuki Exnora NGO and the vice-president of United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (U-FERWAS), said suggestions and objections to RWAs should be given priority and population should be one of priority.
“We now need to share the details of new ward boundaries, phone numbers of municipal staffers, and streamline everything for the residents for municipal services," said a resident of Sai Valmiki Nagar, Bairagiguda.
