HYDERABAD: The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has asked the Telangana chief wildlife warden for a report on illegal power connections in Kawal tiger reserve.
The NTCA, in a letter to the top wildlife officer, referring to a report ‘Most power supply in Kawal is illegal’ published in these columns on August 14, made particular reference to how there has been an history of 79 villages using electrified snares to trap and kill wildlife between 2019 and 2024.
The NTCA asked for a factual status and action taken report ‘at the earliest’ from the state forest department on the state of affairs in Kawal tiger reserve with respect to electricity connections and power lines inside the protected area.
