HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed to spend ₹1.15 crore to restore the damaged road behind Gandhi Hospital in Padmaraonagar, with works expected to begin within 10 to 15 days. The move follows Deccan Chronicle’s report Padmaraonagar road near Gandhi Hosp. unmotorable highlighting the poor condition of the stretch.
Roads minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy directed GHMC and HMWS&SB commissioners to act on the issue. Subsequently, GHMC zonal commissioner K.A. Mangathayaru, along with engineering officials, inspected the damaged stretch on Friday.
Mangathayaru said the road connecting Padmaraonagar to Musheerabad was damaged during pipeline works undertaken by HMWS&SB.
“The road was initially proposed for restoration under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP). However, considering the urgency, we have proposed an estimate of ₹1.15 crore for the Commissioner’s approval. The works are expected to begin within 10 to 15 days,” she said.
She added that fresh estimates were being prepared and tenders would be floated to restore the stretch using GHMC general funds.
The development comes a day after Deccan Chronicle reported that nearly half of the road behind Gandhi Hospital had remained unusable for several months following civic works, causing inconvenience to motorists, particularly two‑wheeler riders.
Residents complained about improper restoration, damaged surfaces and inadequate pedestrian facilities. They also raised concerns over poor coordination between GHMC and HMWS&SB, which had delayed repairs.
