Cyberabad to Geo Tag All CCTV Cameras, Upgrade Surveillance Network

HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police has directed the geo tagging of all existing CCTV cameras across the commissionerate and a phased upgrade of older DVR based surveillance systems to network video recorder (NVR) technology to improve crime prevention and investigations.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Cyberabad police commissioner M. Ramesh on Wednesday at the commissionerate headquarters under the Nenu Saitham programme. Special branch deputy commissioner of police Y. V.S. Sudheendra and officials from various wings attended the meeting.
The commissioner said all existing CCTV cameras should be geo tagged and entered into a digital database, while every newly installed camera should be geo tagged immediately. Each police station has also been asked to appoint a dedicated administrator to monitor CCTV systems, ensure cameras remain functional and arrange immediate repairs whenever required.
Officials were instructed to integrate existing cameras with the police surveillance network and encourage the installation of more cameras through public participation under the Nenu Saitham initiative.
The commissioner also directed officials to speed up the transition from DVR to NVR technology across the commissionerate. He asked them to complete the required technical approvals, infrastructure and network connectivity between police stations and the central control system to enable real time monitoring, faster retrieval of footage, evidence collection and analysis.
He said vendors would be responsible for maintenance and uninterrupted functioning of CCTV systems, while police personnel and vendors would receive training on geo tagging, software use and system maintenance. He appealed to residents, apartments, educational institutions, industries and commercial establishments to install quality CCTV cameras and link them with the police network to strengthen public safety.
Geo tagging will help police digitally map camera locations, quickly identify available footage during investigations and improve surveillance coverage across the commissionerate.
