Hyderabad: Cyber Fraud Solved In 10 Days, Police Return Rs 1 Cr To Victim
The police commissioner cautioned people against transferring large amounts of money merely based on WhatsApp names or display pictures. He advised users to independently verify the identity of anyone requesting money through different communication channels before making a transaction.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have arrested an accused in connection with a major cyber fraud in which criminals allegedly impersonated a saree shop owner on WhatsApp and duped the shop’s accountant of Rs. One crore.
Sharing the details with the media, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr.M. Ramesh on Wednesday stated that the case was solved in 10 days and the amount was returned to the victim. According to the police, the fraudsters used the saree shop owner’s name and display picture on WhatsApp and sent fake messages to the accountant, asking him to transfer a large sum of money. Believing the messages to be genuine, the accountant transferred Rs. 1 crore.
During the investigation, the Cyber Crime Police found that the transferred amount had been routed through a corporate current account maintained in the name of Royal Moda Pvt. Ltd., which was allegedly being used as a mule account for routing fraudulent proceeds.
Police arrested Deepak Kumar (37), who was engaged in a water-plant business and a resident of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, in connection with the case. He was produced before a Court at Lucknow, where transit remand was obtained, and he was brought to Cyberabad and produced before the IX Additional Metropolitan Magistrate, Kukatpally, Cyberabad, who remanded him to judicial custody.
With court orders and police intervention, the entire amount was recovered and returned to the victim within just 10 days. Further investigation is in progress to identify the remaining accused persons, ascertain their respective roles and trace the complete money trail.
