Hyderabad: Even as the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) continues to get bomb threat emails, the Cyberabad police here on Tuesday claimed that they have leads in these cases.

“Half a dozen cases related to bomb threat emails have already been concluded. We have leads in other cases,” a senior police official said, exuding confidence that they would achieve a breakthrough in these cases.

“We cannot generalise all these cases as those who were detained earlier were from Bengaluru, Jaipur and other places,” the official said. He further stated that the bomb threat emails registered a spike in December and in the last one year the airport has received around 30 emails.

As the investigation into these cases is on, the RGIA has received one more email related to a bomb threat to a British Airways flight bound to Hyderabad on Monday.

After the flight landed safely, the airline staff and the personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) checked it thoroughly. Upon receiving information, the officials initiated standard safety protocols before checking it.

The customer support service of RGIA received the email related to the bomb threat to BA 277 flight from Heathrow to Hyderabad. Officials declared that it was a hoax email after examining the flight, which later departed to its scheduled destination.

The RGIA earlier received a bomb threat email regarding a KLM Airlines flight from Amsterdam, which was declared a hoax following security checks, police said.

The airport customer support received the bomb threat email late Sunday night for the Amsterdam-Hyderabad (KL 873) flight, Airport sources said adding the plane landed safely in Hyderabad and all standard safety protocols were initiated.

"Security check was carried out and nothing suspicious was found. It was a hoax email," a police official said. The flight departed as well for Amsterdam from Hyderabad on Monday, police said.
