Cyberabad Police Arrest 4 in Rs 1.03 Cr Cyber Frauds
The fraudsters posed as officials of Mumbai cybercrime, ED, CBI and RBI, threatening the victim with false money-laundering charges.
Hyderabad:Cyberabad cybercrime police on Saturday announced the arrest of four men for allegedly cheating two victims of a total of ₹1.03 crore in separate cyber fraud cases.
In the first case, three men from Andhra Pradesh — Hanumantha Naidu, Singamsetti Suresh and Peddiraju — were arrested for providing bank accounts to fraudsters who duped a victim of ₹22.08 lakh in an online investment scam. The victim was lured via WhatsApp into registering on a fake trading website, pc.marketaxese.cc, which mimicked a genuine platform. Fraudsters initially allowed a small withdrawal to build confidence, before inducing repeated transfers under the guise of trading deposits and capital enhancement. When the victim attempted to withdraw larger sums, additional payments were demanded for taxes and security deposits, while fictitious profits were shown. Of the ₹22.65 lakh transferred, only ₹57,552 was returned.
In the second case, Rajesh Hanuman Khakhedia from Maharashtra was arrested for allegedly providing mule accounts to scamsters who cheated a victim of ₹81.30 lakh. The fraudsters posed as officials of Mumbai cybercrime, ED, CBI and RBI, threatening the victim with false money-laundering charges. Fake arrest orders were shown to coerce compliance, and the victim was told to transfer funds for “RBI/Anti-money laundering verification.” Police said another mule account holder linked to this case was arrested in September 2025.
Overall, Cyberabad cybercrime police detected 11 cases during the week, six related to trading fraud, four to digital arrest fraud and one to business fraud, leading to 16 arrests. Around 10 of these were linked to trading scams. Police also processed 261 court orders in 30 cases and refunded ₹62.49 lakh to victims.
