Cyber Fraudsters Use New Year Ruse for Cheating the Gullible

Nizamabad:Cybercriminals have started taking advantage of the upcoming New Year celebrations by sending online messages that end up emptying pockets of those gullible.
In this regard, police officials have advised, in particular mobile phone users, to avoid clicking links that appear suspicious or offer deals that are “too good.”
For the last one month, many people have lost money from their bank accounts by getting allured by offers coming on their mobile phones. In particular, there are offers allegedly of Zudio with New Year greetings and lucrative offers.
These offers are coming in the form of WhatsApp messages and SMS. According to an estimate, people have already lost lakhs of rupees.
Cyber security specialist Jalda Chaitra Sai asked people to exercise extreme caution. She said their technical teams are tracking links related to cybercrimes and alerting people.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Cyber Cell assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Y. Venkateshwar Rao disclosed that they have arrested 20 cyber criminals recently. “We are continuing to receive complaints from victims every day and are tracking the criminals,” he stated.
The ACP advised people not to open unknown links on their mobile phones or computers. In particular, he advised retired people to be cautious, as they are a soft target for cybercriminals.
