Coverts in BRS Trying to Force Merger With BJP, Alleges Kavitha

Leaving none in doubt that she is in the middle of a battle of survival in the BRS, and her primary rival was her brother and party working president KT Rama Rao – as he is the BRS leader who was in the USA and is now in London – Kavitha declared that her “only leader is KCR. Nothing was done in rallying the party troops to defend KCR when he got notices (from Justice PC Ghose commission of inquiry in Kaleshwaram barrages). Instead, all we see are tweets”

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC K. Kavitha on Thursday dropped a fresh bombshell on her party declaring that ‘coverts’ in the BRS were working to force the party’s merger with the BJP.

Kavitha, in an apparent battle of survival in the BRS, also made no bones about who is to be blamed for her plight of facing a continuous onslaught from within and without. Short of naming her elder brother and BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao as the villain of the piece, Kavitha castigated the ‘party leadership’ for abandoning her father and not rallying the troops to defend him after he received notices from the judicial commission probing the Kaleshwaram project.

In a pointed reference to Rama Rao who is on a tour of the United States and the United Kingdom addressing BRS party meetings in the two countries, Kavitha asked: “What are we celebrating in the US instead of doing grassroot work?”

The party leadership, she said, must explain why it was restricting itself to tweets and not launching a stir defending her father after he received the notices. “The working president can do what he is supposed to do. But the party has a responsibility to rise in KCR’s defence,” she said.

Kavitha was speaking with reporters during a hastily called informal chat with reporters on Thursday morning at her residence. Responding to a question on whether she was willing to work with Rama Rao if he becomes the party chief, Kavitha declared: “Only KCR is my leader; I have no other leaders to follow in the party.”

On her charge that ‘coverts’ were working to see that the BRS was merged into the BJP, Kavitha said that she was convinced that there was a very serious effort to fold the BRS into the BJP. “There is a 101 per cent plan to merge the BRS into the BJP. This was proposed to me by a BJP leader when I was in prison in Delhi. I rejected that outright and took this to KCR’s notice. For Telangana, it is not the BJP or the Congress which are the options but only BRS, and KCR as its leader,” she said.

Kavitha said the ongoing onslaught by “some paid media artistes” against her, and a barrage of posts from social media cells set up outside India, is part of a “concerted effort to create distance between KCR and me.”

Incidentally, Kavitha picked on using ‘coverts’, a term used by Rama Rao at a recent press meet where he said there were some Congress coverts in the BRS who will be exposed in the days to come.

In what appeared to be further targeting of Rama Rao, she said: “I don’t indulge in backstabbing. ‘They’ said there are coverts in the party. If that is so, why are the coverts not being kicked out? Who is behind the move to get the BRS into the BJP? Why is the party silent on my demand of finding out who leaked my letter to my father? My only demand is that the party reveal who leaked the letter. Instead, I am being attacked,” she said.

When a BRS leader received notices earlier to appear before a probe, Kavitha said several MLAs flocked to this person to express support. “You know who this leader is. Why is the party not defending me? This is the handiwork of the party leadership itself. This is not KCR’s doing,” she said, differentiating between her father, and others running party affairs.

To a question on whether she would launch a new party, Kavitha responded saying that this was something she cannot talk about now.
