Hyderabad: Confederation of Resident Welfare Associations (CoRWA) on Tuesday urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to direct officials concerned to take earliest corrective steps to make Secunderabad-Medchal stretch on national highway (NH) 44 motorable.

In a letter to the Union Minister, CoRWA national general secretary BT Srinivasan said the motorists were facing several hardships due to abandoned and delayed works on Secunderabad-Medchal stretch. The incomplete, abandoned and delayed works on the ongoing flyover and road widening projects were causing hardships.

The Secunderabad-Medchal stretch is a critical arterial corridor used daily by office-goers, students, goods vehicles and long-distance travelers entering and leaving Hyderabad towards Nagpur and beyond.

Because of the present condition of the road surface, barricading, diversions and unfinished structures, the normal travel time of about one hour has now increased to nearly two hours or even more during peak hours.

At several locations, the carriageway is badly damaged, with potholes, uneven surfaces and sudden lane drops, leading not only to traffic jams but also to frequent accidents and vehicle breakdowns. Long stretches remain dug up on both sides for flyover works yet hardly any visible progress is seen on piers, decks or service roads for months together, giving an impression that the contractor has virtually abandoned the work.

“We request you to kindly give it a personal look on priority and direct authorities concerned to take earliest corrective steps to make Secunderabad - Medchal stretch,” he said.
