Cops Suspect Namratha Trafficked 80 Babies
As Namratha maintained silence during her earlier police custody, investigators filed another petition to extend her custody.
Hyderabad: Suspecting Universal Srushti Fertility Centre organiser Dr Namratha of involvement in child trafficking, Hyderabad police have filed a petition seeking her further custody for additional questioning.
Gopalapuram police reportedly obtained leads indicating that Namratha cheated several couples under the pretext of providing surrogacy treatment and orgnised child trafficking.
As Namratha maintained silence during her earlier police custody, investigators filed another petition to extend her custody. Police suspect she may have purchased at least 80 babies from various places and handed them over to couples. However, it is yet to be established by the investigators.
In the latest incident, Namratha allegedly used the letterheads of a senior doctor in Secunderabad. A woman doctor has lodged a fresh complaint alleging that her letterheads were used to issue surrogacy treatment records and medicine prescriptions. Police are verifying the contents of the complaint to file new cases.
Gopalapuram police have also reportedly detained additional suspects for allegedly assisting Namratha in her illegal activities. Samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory and further action will be taken based on the reports.
