Hyderabad: Sumanth, a former OSD to endowments minister Konda Surekha, and his associates allegedly assaulted a 36-year-old realtor with an iron rod at Jubilee Hills and threatened to kill him after he refused to pay additional extortion money, police said on Thursday. He also allegedly spoke about paying a Rs 10-crore extortion.

The case was registered against Sumanth and his associates — Prashanth, Arun Kumar Reddy, Karthik, Mahender Reddy and others — based on a complaint filed by realtor Gongidi Harikrishna. They were booked for assault, causing injuries, criminal intimidation and illegal confinement.

Harikrishna initially approached Medipally police, alleging that Sumanth and his associates attacked him after he refused to pay additional money. Medipally SI D. Yakanna registered a Zero FIR in Crime No. 3 of 2026 under Section 109 read with 3(5) of the BNS and transferred it to Jubilee Hills police on jurisdictional grounds.

According to the complaint, Harikrishna's friend Ramu called him and asked him to come to his office in Jubilee Hills. Harikrishna, accompanied by Kiran, reached the office around 9.45 pm on Thursday, where Sumanth, Ramu and others were present.

Harikrishna alleged that Sumanth questioned him over collecting money using his name. When Harikrishna denied the allegation, Sumanth abused him and allegedly assaulted him with an iron rod on his hands and legs.

Harikrishna further alleged that Sumanth instigated his associates to kill him and threatened him with dire consequences if he disclosed the alleged `10-crore extortion. He suffered a fracture to his left hand and bleeding injuries and allegedly vomited blood after the assault.

Two police constables later reached the spot and shifted Harikrishna to Jubilee Hills police station, where a fresh complaint was recorded. Harikrishna also told police that Sumanth had called him around 5 pm on July 30 and asked him to meet urgently, a police officer said.
