Constable Injured as SLR Misfires at Amberpet CPL

Hyderabad:An Armed Reserve police constable suffered bullet injuries after his service weapon misfired at the CPL Amberpet police lines in the early hours of Monday.

According to Harish Kumar, ACP of Kachiguda division, the incident occurred around 12.20 am when constable P. Govardhan Reddy of the AP cadre relieved another guard. While cocking his SLR rifle, the weapon accidentally discharged.

“The first round went into the air, and the second round pierced his right shoulder,” the ACP said.

Night-duty officers from Amberpet police immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the injured constable to Care Hospital, Nampally, where his condition is said to be stable and out of danger.

Govardhan Reddy, deployed along with 150 personnel from the AP company for standby duty at the Amberpet CPL grounds, sustained the injury when the rifle misfired.

Police said a case has been registered, and the SLR weapon has been sent to the CPL Arms Maintenance Section for inspection.

The department has ordered a probe into the incident.
