Congress Sweeps Mancherial Corporation With 44 of 60 Divisions in First Poll

The BRS won eight divisions, the BJP five, the Jana Sena Party one and the All India Forward Bloc two.

 Adilabad: The Congress secured a decisive victory in the maiden elections to the Mancherial Municipal Corporation, winning 44 of the 60 divisions and positioning itself comfortably to secure the Mayor’s post. The results were declared on Friday.

The BRS won eight divisions, the BJP five, the Jana Sena Party one and the All India Forward Bloc two. With 31 seats required to elect the mayor, the Congress crossed the majority mark with a wide margin.

Congress MLA Kokkirala Premsagar Rao and former DCC president Surekha led the party’s campaign in the corporation. During the campaign, Premsagar Rao highlighted development works undertaken in the Mancherial Assembly constituency over the past two years and funds sanctioned by the state government.

In Kyathanpalli Municipality, the BRS won 10 wards, Congress seven, the CPI four and one seat went to an Independent.

In Chennur Municipality, Congress secured 11 wards, while the BRS won four, the BJP two and one seat went to an Independent. Labour minister Gaddam Vivek, Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi and DCC president Raghunath Reddy campaigned in Kyathanpalli and Chennur.

In Bellampalli Municipality, Congress and BRS won 14 wards each, while the BJP secured one and Independents five. The Independents are expected to play a decisive role in the election of the chairman. Bellampalli MLA Gaddam Vinod is making efforts to secure support for the post.

The Congress’ performance in Mancherial Corporation marks one of its strongest showings in a municipal corporation in the state.
