Adilabad: With municipal elections approaching, the Congress on Friday conducted a flash survey across select colonies in the erstwhile Adilabad district to assess the winning prospects of aspirants seeking party nominations.

The move comes amid intense competition for ward councillor posts, with several leaders eyeing the municipal chairman positions. Many aspirants filed nominations for ward councillor seats and submitted the party’s A Form to election officials, while awaiting the issuance of the crucial B Form.

According to party sources, survey teams began the exercise as early as 6 am and completed it within a few hours by collecting feedback from local residents on the popularity and acceptability of party aspirants.

Some leaders, particularly those aspiring for chairman posts, reportedly maintained secrecy while filing their nominations to avoid drawing the attention of rivals. It is learnt that such candidates filed nominations through their proposers.

The Congress high command is closely monitoring the nomination process, as multiple aspirants have filed nominations in several wards across municipalities in Adilabad, Nirmal, Bhainsa, Kagaznagar, Asifabad, Bellampalli, Chennur and Mancherial.

Party election observers are expected to persuade candidates to withdraw from the fray after the official announcement of party nominees and issuance of the B Form, party leaders said.
