Congress Stages Protest Near Indira Park, Demands KCR Resignation
The Congress party staged a protest near Indira Park demanding that former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao resign from his post as MLA, accusing him of remaining absent from the Telangana Assembly.
Hyderabad: The Congress party on Sunday staged a protest near Indira Park in Hyderabad, demanding that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) resign from his post as MLA, accusing him of remaining absent from the Telangana Assembly despite being an elected public representative.
Senior Congress leaders, including V. Hanumantha Rao, addressed the gathering and launched a sharp attack on KCR over his continued absence from the state legislature. Hanumantha Rao said that while an ordinary employee's salary is cut if he fails to report to work for even a week, KCR continues to draw his salary and allowances despite not attending Assembly proceedings. He demanded that KCR either attend the Assembly immediately and offer his suggestions on public issues, or resign from his post.
Congress workers displayed banners at the protest site accusing KCR of staying away from the public while spending large sums of public money. The party claimed that nearly Rs 21 crore in public funds has been spent so far on KCR's salary, security, bulletproof vehicles, and residential expenses. Party leaders described this as undemocratic, alleging that KCR was availing public money and facilities while keeping his distance from both the people and the legislature.
Alongside the protest, Congress cadres also carried out a wider campaign in the area, seeking to highlight the alleged failures of the previous BRS government while showcasing the current Congress government's governance initiatives.
