Adilabad: Congress leaders and cadre on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest in Adilabad town against the BJP-led Central government’s move to remove the name ‘Gandhi’ from the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
Addressing the gathering, District Congress Committee president Naresh Jadhav said that removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme was driven by ideology and went against Gandhian values and principles. He alleged that the proposed new Bill would dilute the guarantee of employment, as work would no longer be assured but provided only on demand.
Senior Congress leaders Addi Bhoja Reddy, Sajid Khan, Gandrath Sujatha, Srikanth, Alluri Sanjeev Reddy and others participated in the protest.
