Congress Launches 17 Schemes in 17 Months Campaign in Telangana
As part of its youth empowerment drive, on June 2 coinciding with Telangana state formation day, the government will distribute ₹1 lakh to ₹4 lakh each to five lakh unemployed youth under the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme. A total of ₹6,000 crore will be disbursed under this programme during this year.
Hyderabad: In a bid to bolster its public image and counter Opposition criticism, the Congress in Telangana has launched a state-wide public outreach campaign titled ‘17 schemes in 17 months’, highlighting the welfare and development programmes rolled out in the past 17 months of coming to power.
The aggressive outreach comes in response to concerns that the Congress government’s achievements were not effectively communicated to the public, giving space for opposition parties to claim that the Congress had failed to deliver in its first 17 months of power. With the local elections approaching, the Congress hopes the ‘17 schemes in 17 months’ campaign will consolidate support and highlight its governance track record.
The campaign showcases flagship schemes such as Rythu Runamafi (crop loan waiver up to Rs.2 lakh each for farmers), Rythu Bharosa (₹12,000 per acre per year), Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa (Rs.12,000 per year to landless farm labourers), Indiramma Indlu, free 200 units of domestic power, ₹500 LPG cylinders, free Sanna Biyyam, free bus travel for women, Rajiv Aarogyasri’s ₹10 lakh free medical treatment and Rajiv Yuva Vikasam, a self-employment scheme for youth.
Other highlighted initiatives include the Musi river rejuvenation project, filling of over 63,000 government vacancies, establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Young India Police School, SC sub-categorisation, Future City development and the Young India Skill University.
Unveiling the initiative at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud released a series of pamphlets detailing the Congress government’s welfare schemes and development programmes. These will be distributed door-to-door across the state as part of a comprehensive awareness campaign ahead of the upcoming local body elections. Goud said that the campaign aims to directly engage citizens. “Our leaders and workers will go door-to-door, interact with people and explain the good work the Congress government has done,” he said. “We will also set up boards at village and ward levels displaying the number of beneficiaries in each locality," he added.
