Congress Targets CEC In Hyderabad Rally
“Today, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee decided to do the protest and we will be walking from Indira Gandhi statue up to the Election Commission in Telangana. We want to file a complaint regarding Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and prosecution,” Chamala said.
HYDERABAD: Responding to the AICC’s nationwide protest call, Congress cadres organised a massive rally in Hyderabad on Monday under tight security, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, PCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Mohammed Azharuddin and Ponnam Prabhakar, along with scores of MPs and legislators, led the rally from the Indira Gandhi statue on PVNR Marg (Necklace Road) to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office at BRKR Bhavan near the Secretariat. The leaders staged a sit-in protest and burnt an effigy of Gyanesh Kumar outside the office.
They accused the Union government of undermining independent constitutional institutions and turning the Election Commission into a political puppet. Alleging a conspiracy within the Special Summary Revision of voter lists, they charged BJP leaders at the Centre with orchestrating “vote theft” and trampling citizens’ rights.
Bhatti Vikramarka said repeated warnings by Rahul Gandhi about systematic deletion of votes under the guise of SIR had now been proven true, noting that even commissioners had admitted to irregularities. He described the development as a serious blow to democracy.
Minister Azharuddin demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, stating that the CEC’s actions had raised grave questions about the protection of voting rights. “Every citizen has an equal and fundamental right to vote. The Election Commission must function in a manner that inspires confidence among citizens and all political parties. Transparency, impartiality and accountability are essential for the credibility of our democracy,” he said.
