Congress Government Spent Rs.60,000 Cr for Farmer Welfare: Revanth
Revanth Reddy said that people who benefit from Congress schemes will teach a fitting lesson to BRS in the upcoming elections
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday said that the Congress government has spent Rs.60,000 crore for the welfare of farmers in the past 17 months.
“BRS leaders have amassed wealth over the past 10 years. They are using their "ill-gotten" money to spread false propaganda against the Congress government through social media,” said Revanth Reddy. He said that people who benefit from Congress schemes will teach a fitting lesson to BRS in the upcoming elections.
Addressing a public meeting after launching the ‘Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam’ scheme at Macharam in Amrabad mandal, Nagarkurnool district, Revanth Reddy said the Congress government’s schemes have benefited farmers, despite smear campaigns by opposition parties through social media platforms.
As part of the new scheme, a pilot project to install solar pump sets in podu lands owned by tribals will begin on 45 acres of land in Macharam, benefiting 45 tribal families whose lands were allegedly taken away during the previous BRS regime. The scheme will be extended to 2,30,735 tribal farmers in phases covering an extent of 6.69 lakh acres under the RoFR Act, 2006, over five years until 2029-30 at a cost of Rs.12,600 crore.
Revanth Reddy instructed officials to complete the solar pump set installation for all eligible farmers in the pilot phase within one month and recommended involving women’s self-help groups (SHGs) in setting up the solar power plants, providing them with an opportunity to earn revenue from the scheme.
“I am deeply proud to launch this new scheme in my home region of Nallamala,” Revanth Reddy said, highlighting his commitment to the development of the Achampet Assembly constituency. The Chief Minister promised to make Achampet a model constituency for the entire country, showcasing special development projects and providing the necessary funds for their implementation.
He criticised the previous BRS government for imprisoning those who fought for Podu land rights, contrasting it with the Congress government’s efforts to promote agriculture. “We’ve installed solar pump sets in Podu lands, and now we will provide solar pump sets to all farmers in Achampet within the next 100 days,” he stated.
The Chief Minister also mentioned several key initiatives of the Congress government for farmers and public welfare. The Congress government is currently providing a Rs.500 bonus along with the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers cultivating fine variety paddy. “What was once a burdensome crop has now become a profitable one for farmers,” he noted.
In an effort to uplift the poor, the state is distributing fine rice (sanna biyyam) to 3.1 crore people through fair price shops. Additionally, 50 lakh families are receiving 200 units of free power and women are benefiting from free RTC bus travel.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted plans to involve women more actively in the energy sector, including awarding work to women SHGs to generate 1000 MW of solar power, positioning them as potential competitors to major players like Adani and Ambani.
Stating that Telangana is on the path to becoming the richest state in the country, the Chief Minister pointed to the recruitment of over 60,000 job aspirants in the past year as an unprecedented achievement. He also cited the Union government's recognition of Telangana as the top state for controlling the prices of essential commodities and maintaining law and order.
The Chief Minister dismissed the opposition’s criticism, particularly their doubts over the leadership of Palamuru (Mahabubnagar district). “I hail from Mahabubnagar. We proved them wrong by making Telangana number one in all sectors,” he said.
Revanth Reddy also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's legacy, recalling her lasting connection with the poor and tribal communities.
He said the people of Telangana will ultimately determine the truth, rejecting false propaganda spread by vested interests. "The welfare schemes will speak for themselves and the people will teach a fitting lesson to those spreading lies," he added.
