Congress Councillors Claim BJP Wards Getting Preferential Treatment in Adilabad
Congress leaders said about ₹62 crore had been allocated for development works in the municipality over the past four months
ADILABAD: Congress ward councillors in Adilabad Municipality have alleged discrimination in allocation of funds for development works, claiming that BJP councilors are receiving a larger share.
Second-rung Congress leaders and councillors raised the issue at the District Congress Committee office, seeking intervention from DCC president Naresh Jadhav, municipal chairman Bandari Anusha and Assembly constituency in-charge Kandi Srinivas Reddy.
They alleged that funds were being allocated without the approval of in-charge minister Jupally Krishna Rao and that wards represented by BJP councillors were receiving priority for development works.
Adilabad Municipality has 49 wards, with BJP holding 21, Congress 12, BRS and MIM six each, and Independents four.
Congress leaders said about ₹62 crore had been allocated for development works in the municipality over the past four months. Of this, ₹48.5 crore had been sanctioned and works initiated, while proposals for additional works were submitted to district authorities.
A Congress councillor said residents were questioning delays in basic works such as drainage and culverts in their wards, while similar works were being carried out in neighbouring BJP-represented wards.
Some leaders also alleged that Opposition members in Indiramma committees were influencing the allocation of housing benefits. They disputed claims by BJP leaders, including MLA Payal Shankar, that the Indiramma housing scheme was a Central government initiative.
Concerns were also raised over allocation of houses to minority communities, with one leader stating that only 14 out of 194 houses sanctioned in the first phase were allotted to Muslim beneficiaries in Bangariguda Colony.
Party leaders further alleged that some Independent councillors, including those who had supported the Congress-backed municipal chairman, were now in contact with BJP leaders and could shift allegiance ahead of co-option member elections.
District Congress leaders said they would take up the issue with minister Jupally Krishna Rao and officials.
