Congress Committed To BC Quota: PCC Chief
Government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir and PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud participated as chief guests in the unveiling of the statue of Savitribai Phule: Reports
NIZAMABAD: TPCC president and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud on Wednesday said Savitribai Phule fought relentlessly for social justice and laid the foundation for equality through education. He said the Congress government is equally committed to ensuring social justice by implementing reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) and is making sincere efforts to deliver BC reservations.
Government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir and PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud participated as chief guests in the unveiling of the statue of Savitribai Phule.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said the Congress’ struggle would continue with the sole objective of delivering justice to BCs. He asserted that providing reservations to BCs based on population remains a key agenda of the party. He remarked that rulers who once viewed BCs merely as a vote bank must now learn a lesson. Stating that reservations are the most effective tool for the social and economic empowerment of BCs, he said the Congress government is conducting a caste census in a scientific manner to ensure a fair share for BCs.
He added that the government is exploring all possible legal avenues to remove hurdles in implementing BC reservations. “There will be no compromise on the rights of BCs,” he said, calling upon party cadres and BC organisations to unite in the struggle.
Mahesh Kumar Goud said the Congress believes in delivering justice not just through words, but through concrete action.
Addressing the gathering, Shabbir recalled the invaluable contributions of Savitribai Phule and said her role in advancing women’s education in the country was immeasurable. He said that despite facing social hostility and repeated humiliation, she firmly believed education was the only path to progress and went on to establish schools for women.
He noted that Savitribai Phule’s courage and determination continue to inspire generations and asserted that true social development is possible only when women are given equal rights and opportunities. He urged people to follow and practise her ideals.
Local public representatives, educationists, women’s organisation leaders and a large number of people attended the programme. The statue unveiling ceremony was held in a grand and enthusiastic atmosphere.
