Warangal: Opposition parties, including the Congress, BRS and the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), staged protests in Warangal and Karimnagar districts on Monday, demanding the arrest of Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in connection with a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In Hanamkonda, District Congress Committee president Engala Venkatram Reddy alleged misconduct by the minister towards a 17-year-old girl and sought immediate police action. He demanded that the Hyderabad Police Commissioner secure CCTV footage from the minister’s Jubilee Hills residence for verification of the family’s visits.

In Karimnagar, BRS leaders staged a dharna at Telangana Chowk. Former district library chairman Ponnam Anil Kumar called on Bandi Sanjay to take an oath at a temple regarding his son’s innocence and sought his resignation to ensure an impartial inquiry. He also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over the handling of the issue.

The AIFB held a protest at Mancherial Chowrasta, where district secretary Bandari Shekhar alleged that police had filed counter-cases against the victim’s family instead of acting against the accused. He further claimed that the minor had attempted suicide twice due to alleged harassment.

Protesters across parties demanded a transparent examination of call records linked to the case and protection for the victim’s family. They said the agitation would continue in both districts until action is taken.

The Congress also criticised the BJP’s ‘Beti Bachao’ slogan in the context of the allegations.
