Congress, BJP in Credit War Over Adilabad Airfield Project
Several Congress leaders and party workers participated in the celebrations.
ADILABAD: Leaders and workers of both the Congress and the BJP on Monday celebrated the Telangana government's issuance of GO No. 36, sanctioning ₹2,278 crore for the development of a joint-user airfield at Adilabad. Party workers burst crackers and distributed sweets in different parts of the town, with both parties claiming credit for the long-awaited project.
Former BJP MP Soyam Bapurao said he had initiated efforts to upgrade the existing airstrip into an airport and an Indian Air Force training centre during his tenure. He recalled raising the issue in the Lok Sabha and meeting then Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to pursue the proposal. He said the final site survey for the railway overbridge (ROB) was also completed during his tenure and thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for sanctioning funds for the project.
Congress leaders, including Adilabad Market Committee chairman Srikanth Reddy, Grandhalaya Samstha chairman Mallepula Narsaiah, former DCC president Sajid Khan and former Market Committee chairman Sanjeev Reddy, said the project fulfilled Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's promise to adopt Adilabad district, made during his election campaign from Indravelli. Several Congress leaders and party workers participated in the celebrations.
On the other hand, BJP senior leader Jogu Ravi welcomed the government's decision and credited Adilabad MLA Payal Shankar and MP Godam Nagesh for consistently pursuing the project. He appealed to opposition parties to stop politicising the issue and extend support for the development of the joint-user airfield. Several BJP leaders and workers also joined the celebrations across the town.
