Congress showcases welfare schemes, vows 100 Assembly seats during massive Janahita Padayatra in Khanapur

ADILABAD: Thousands of people, along with party activists and leaders, participated in the Janahita Padayatra in Khanapur Assembly constituency, Nirmal district, on Sunday. Enthusiastic crowds from both Adilabad and Nirmal districts lined the 8-km route from Khanapur’s outskirts to the town centre.
Many Congress hopefuls for upcoming local-body elections mobilised supporters for the march. Adivasi youth in Gussadi attire and Lambada women in traditional dress welcomed the procession into Khanapur.
TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud criticised BJP MLAs and MPs for not supporting BC reservations, suggesting they fear home minister. He asserted that both the BJP and BRS are weakening in the state and reminded the audience that Congress had secured separate statehood for Telangana. He predicted Congress would win 100 Assembly seats in the next elections and praised the Chief Minister’s focus on Adilabad district.
AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan spoke of the party’s deep bond with Adivasi communities, quoting Indira Gandhi’s wish to be reborn as an Adivasi. She contrasted Congress’s unifying policies with what she called other parties’ divisive ideologies, and criticised the BJP for treating Adivasis as “Vanavasis” and for alleged illegal voter removals.
Minister for panchayat raj D. Anasuya Seethakka urged party workers to take government welfare schemes door to door and encouraged voters to elect Congress candidates in the forthcoming local body polls.
Tourism ,inister Jupally Krishna Rao denounced BRS propaganda and lamented that the Centre shows “stepmotherly” treatment to Telangana. He highlighted that the current government pays ₹6,500 crore monthly in interest on BRS-era loans, totalling ₹1.2 lakh crore so far.
Zaheerabad MP Suresh Shetkar; AGROS chairman Kasula Balraj; former DCCB chairman Pocharam Bhaskar Reddy; district collector T. Vinay Krishna Reddy; Bodhan sub-collector Vikas Mahatho; and several MLAs, MLCs, and senior leaders including Vedma Bojju, Shankar Naik, Makhan Singh Raj Thakur, Indrakaran Reddy, Soyam Bapu Rao, and others joined the padayatra and inaugurated newly built community halls and gram panchayat offices.
They emphasised that, unlike the BRS government, the current administration is expanding welfare initiatives, issuing new ration cards, launching the ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, constructing Indiramma houses, and distributing high-quality rice.
