KARIMNAGAR: Congress leaders have intensified efforts to secure the Satavahana Urban Development Authority (SUDA) chairman post amid indications that the state government may appoint heads for urban development authorities and corporations this month.

Several aspirants, including former Suda chairman Komatireddy Narender Reddy, whose tenure ended on July 8, Alphores educational institutions owner Dr V. Narender Reddy, and Karimnagar Assembly constituency in-charge Velchala Rajender Rao, are in the fray.

They are lobbying with ministers from the erstwhile Karimnagar district, including D. Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar, as well as in-charge minister Tummala Nageswara Rao.

Aspirants are also camping in Hyderabad and seeking appointments with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy through his adviser Vem Narender Reddy.

Komatireddy Narender Reddy has sought reappointment, stating that he intends to complete ongoing development works initiated during his tenure.

Dr V. Narender Reddy, who joined the Congress ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections and contested the MLC graduates’ constituency, is also making efforts for the post and has been meeting the party leadership.

Velchala Rajender Rao is also seeking the position. His supporters said he played a key role in the party’s performance in the recent Karimnagar municipal corporation elections.

Other aspirants include Akarapu Bhaskar Reddy, Rachakonda Chakradhar Rao and Mallikarjuna Rajender.

The Suda chairman post has gained significance for the Congress in Karimnagar, where the party does not have an MLA, with the authority playing a key role in decisions related to urban development in the town and surrounding areas.
