Conduct census without delay: BRS
BRS MP B.Vinod Kumar stressed that accurate census data was essential for welfare programme and development initiatives, particularly those targeting the poor
Hyderabad: The BJP government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was making governance blunders due to the lack of fresh census data, former BRS MP B. Vinod Kumar said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, Vinod Kumar pointed out that the 2021 Census was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “We hoped it would be conducted last year, but it wasn’t. Now, the Union government has allocated only Rs.574 crore for census operations—far below the Rs.8,000 crore required for the full process,” he noted.
He stressed that accurate census data was essential for welfare programme and development initiatives, particularly those targeting the poor. “Since the last census was conducted in 2011, there is no updated population data. This also impacts reservations. The Modi government must act immediately, allocate sufficient funds, and complete the census without further delay,” he demanded.
