Hyderabad:The potential threat posed by an El Nino-marred southwest monsoon season appears set to become that much more real with plans to show a short film in all movie theatres in the state on the phenomenon and what farmers in Telangana need to do to avoid possible impacts of a poor rainy season.

The short, lasting just around four minutes, shows farmers discussing what El Nino is and why they should heed advice on alternative and short duration crops, and follow guidance from the agriculture department as the kharif crop season gets underway.

A senior agriculture department official said this El Nino awareness and safe agriculture practices this season short film was aimed at getting the issue more talked about. The theatrical release of this short film is in addition to several other similar shorts prepared by the agriculture department which have already been shared with lakhs of farmers over WhatsApp and also have been shared by agriculture minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on his X handle.
