Collector Orders Son To Vacate Mother’s House For Neglecting Her
Upon investigating the matter, collector Sriharsha treated the case as an appeal under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act: Report
KARIMNAGAR: In a significant ruling under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, Peddapalli district collector Koya Sriharsha has ordered a man to vacate his mother’s residence within 30 days. The order was issued following a hearing held at the district collectorate on Saturday.
The elderly woman, a resident of FCI Colony in Ramagundam, had filed a complaint alleging that her son was neglecting her well-being, causing her mental distress and fear, despite earlier directives issued by the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO). She appealed for justice, expressing her desire to live peacefully in the home built by her late husband.
Upon investigating the matter, collector Sriharsha treated the case as an appeal under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. The inquiry revealed that the son had failed to provide proper care and had continuously neglected his mother’s needs.
Citing provisions under Sections 23 and 21(3)(b) of the Act, the collector ordered the son to vacate the house within 30 days and warned him not to cause any further disturbance to his mother. He also noted that failure to comply would invite legal action.
The collector further directed the District Welfare Officer of Peddapalli and the local police to strictly enforce the order. Emphasising that children have a legal and moral obligation to care for their parents, he reiterated that neglecting this duty would result in legal consequences.
