Hyderabad: Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India continues to advance towards the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat by strengthening domestic coal production and reducing dependence on imports.

India's total coal imports declined by 5.83 per cent in August 2026, falling to 104.57 million tonnes from 111.05 million tonnes in August 2025. Notably, imports for blending at domestic coal-based power plants registered a sharp decline of 35.23 per cent.

This was stated by the Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy in a post on ‘X’ on Monday. He said the decline reflects the government's sustained efforts to enhance domestic production, strengthen evacuation infrastructure and improve supply-chain efficiency, reinforcing India's energy security and self-reliance.
