Hyderabad: In a major infrastructure push to accelerate Telangana’s growth and raise its gross state domestic product (GSDP), the state government has launched road development works worth ₹60,799 crore — the largest such initiative in its history. In a media statement on Saturday, roads and buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said that the ambitious programme aims to create world-class connectivity and make Telangana a global investment hub. The initiative, he said, is expected to attract investments worth several lakh crore rupees and generate large-scale employment for rural youth.

He said road safety would remain a key priority, with all new works designed to meet modern engineering standards and minimise accidents. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka were personally reviewing progress every 15 days, while the CM’s efforts in Delhi had helped fast-track project approvals, he added.

Venkat Reddy said that another ₹28,000 crore worth of projects were in the proposal stage, including the Mannanur–Srisailam corridor and the Bharat Future City–Bandar Port greenfield highway. Once approved, these would further boost Telangana’s industrial, tourism and logistics potential.

Highlighting important ongoing works, the minister announced the upgradation of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada national highway into an eight-lane expressway between Abdullapurmet Industrial Park and Vijayawada at a cost of ₹10,400 crore. The expressway will have six main lanes and two service lanes to enhance safety and local access.

He said the Regional Ring Road (RRR), estimated to cost ₹36,000 crore, would be a game-changer by connecting all districts of Telangana. The six-lane expressway, to be funded equally by the state and the Centre, would decongest Hyderabad and improve trade and regional connectivity.

In rural areas, single-lane roads will be widened to double lanes, while new roads will be laid in habitations lacking access. Projects worth Rs 11,399 crore under the hybrid annuity model (HAM) will soon be tendered, focusing on decongesting major routes. Among the proposed projects are the 52-km Mannanur–Srisailam elevated corridor costing Rs 8,000 crore, and the ₹20,000 crore Bharat Future City–Amaravati–Bandar Port greenfield highway, both expected to transform regional connectivity and spur economic activity.
