Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy left for New Delhi on Tuesday evening. The Chief Minister will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Official sources said that the primary agenda of the meeting will be to seek approvals and funds for various pending projects concerning Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad.

Among the key issues to be discussed are the approvals for the long-awaited Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2, Musi River rejuvenation, Hyderabad Regional Ring Road and the Future City.

Party sources stated that, as of now, the only confirmed meeting on Revanth Reddy’s schedule is with PM Modi. There is no clarity on whether he will also meet other Union ministers or AICC leaders to discuss party affairs.

The Chief Minister is expected to seek approvals and funds for the construction of the Tummidihatti project and an elevated corridor for the Hyderabad-Srisailam route. He is also likely to request Modi’s intervention in negotiating with the Maharashtra government regarding land acquisition and water-sharing agreements for the Tummidihatti lift irrigation project, which aims to provide irrigation facilities to Adilabad district.

Revanth Reddy will push for the expedited execution of the 2,400-MW National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) power plant. He reminded the Centre that Telangana was originally promised a 4,000-MW NTPC power plant during the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. However, only 1,600 MW capacity was realised during the previous ten years under the BRS regime.

He is also set to request central funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure safe drinking water for all households in the state. Currently, nearly 10 lakh families in Telangana still lack access to safe drinking water, and Revanth Reddy will urge the Centre to allocate funds for the supply of protected water.

The Chief Minister plans to raise the issue of IPS cadre allocation, citing the increase in population and districts in Telangana. He will request the Centre to sanction an additional 29 IPS cadre posts to meet the growing demand for law enforcement officers in the state.

Revanth Reddy will push for the establishment of an Indian Institute of Management in Hyderabad, proposing that land within the University of Hyderabad campus in Gachibowli be used for this purpose. He will also seek the revival of the ITIR-Hyderabad project, which was shelved in the past.

A key focus of the meeting will be expediting work on eight projects in Telangana under the Bharat Mala project. The Chief Minister will seek permission to call for tenders to commence construction. He will advocate for setting up of semiconductor manufacturing units in Telangana, as part of the state’s vision to become a major manufacturing hub.

Another request on the agenda is the allocation of 2,450 acres of defense land to the Telangana government for infrastructure projects, including elevated corridors on the Hyderabad-Karimnagar and Hyderabad-Nagpur highways. The CM has proposed an alternative land exchange in Raviryal to facilitate this.

Revanth Reddy is expected to remind the Centre of unfulfilled promises made during the formation of Telangana state. This includes the establishment of a steel plant in Bayyaram and a rail coach factory in Kazipet.

He will also highlight the inadequate allocation of houses to Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the initial phase and request the sanction of 25 lakh houses in the upcoming phase. The state government has expressed its willingness to align its Indiramma Housing scheme guidelines with the central scheme to facilitate smooth implementation.

A pending request for the release of Rs 1,800 crore under the Backward Regions Grant Fund for 2019-24 will also be put forward.

The CM is likely to urge Modi to expedite tenders for the northern part of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road Project and its southern extension. He will also seek the upgradation of 13 state highways into national highways to enhance connectivity to major towns and pilgrimage sites.
