HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the Congress government would lay bare in the Assembly on Saturday, the manner in which the previous BRS regime had compromised on Telangana’s interests in the Krishna and Godavari River water sharing during its decade-long rule. Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy would make a detailed presentation in the House, placing documents and records to substantiate the government’s claims before legislators and the public.

The Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting with ministers and Congress MLAs representing the undivided Mahbubnagar district to review issues related to the Palamuru- Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme (PRLIS) on Friday, eve of the discussion on river-water sharing, Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, along with local MLAs attended the meeting.

Sources said Revanth Reddy described the BRS boycotting the Assembly session as a calculated attempt to avoid facing facts about its failures in protecting Telangana's interests in river waters. He maintained that staying away from the House was a deliberate strategy by the BRS to escape scrutiny and confrontation with documentary evidence.

The Chief Minister said he had invited the BRS to participate in a debate on PRLIS, asserting that the Assembly was the only legitimate forum for such discussions. Remaining absent while claiming suppression of voice, he said, was nothing but a drama aimed at misleading people. He added that if the BRS leadership attended the session, its lapses, failures and errors in handling irrigation projects and water sharing would inevitably come to light.

Revanth Reddy alleged gross mismanagement of irrigation projects under the previous government, pointing out that despite spending nearly ₹27,000 crore on PRLIS, not a single acre had received water. He said major projects such as Bhima, Nettempadu, Koilsagar, Kalwakurthy, Dindi and Gattu were left incomplete, even as the BRS made misleading claims of dedicating incomplete works to the nation for political gain. He warned that continued evasion of Assembly responsibilities would further erode public trust in the BRS.

Explaining technical aspects of PRLIS, Revanth Reddy said the previous BRS regime deliberately delayed preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) until 2022 to avoid public debate, even as works worth thousands of crores were awarded without statutory approvals. He alleged that environmental clearances were bypassed, leading to litigation, and permissions were secured only for limited drinking water requirements.

The Congress government, he said, aimed to complete PRLIS in phases with full allocations, secure clearances, mobilise funds under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, and pursue Krishna Tribunal hearings aggressively to safeguard Telangana’s rightful share.
