CM Revanth Condemns Rahul’s Arrest
Revanth Reddy says the Opposition will not be deterred in its fight to protect voting rights
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday condemned the detention and arrest of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and MPs belonging to the party and the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, describing the action as a reflection of the “hubris of a failing government.”
Revanth Reddy alleged that the BJP-led government was afraid of Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and his campaign to protect the Constitution and voting rights of citizens. He said the Opposition would not be deterred by such actions and that the participation of people, particularly the youth, in the campaign to protect democracy and voting rights would strengthen the movement.
Drawing a parallel with the freedom struggle, Revanth Reddy said the British government had also arrested leaders including Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Subhas Chandra Bose at different stages on flimsy grounds.
He said the arrests would not weaken the Opposition's resolve and would instead strengthen its efforts to defend democratic institutions and citizens’ voting rights. “We are not going away from our determination and resolve to stake everything for the sake of the country,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that democratic forces led by Rahul Gandhi would continue their fight.
