Climate Change Has No Borders, Neither Should Solutions: Kavya

Warangal MP Dr Kadiyam Kavya called on South Asian countries to move beyond national borders and pursue collective action to tackle the growing threat of climate change. She said environmental protection and addressing the climate crisis were not the responsibility of any single country and stressed the need for regional cooperation to find common solutions.

Speaking at the ‘South Asia Parliamentary Dialogue on Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development’ in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, Dr Kavya said rising temperatures, erratic rainfall, floods, droughts and water scarcity were already affecting agriculture, livelihoods, public health and economies across the region.

“Climate change has no borders. Therefore, solutions should have no borders either,” she said, calling for greater focus on renewable energy, clean energy sources, water conservation, green infrastructure and biodiversity protection.

She urged policymakers to consider the needs of farmers, women, youth, the poor and marginalised communities, who are among the worst affected by climate change. She stressed the need to promote climate-resilient agriculture and efficient water management while strengthening early warning systems for natural disasters.

Dr Kavya also called for India to share its experience in renewable energy and green development initiatives with other South Asian countries.

“Development does not mean destroying nature. True sustainable development means achieving progress while protecting nature,” Dr Kavya said.
