Hyderabad: A Class 10 student died by suicide at his house in Bandamaisammanagar, Domalguda, police said on Sunday. His father was away at that time, and his mother was busy.
Police said the student died by suicide after his father reportedly pulled him for securing low marks and not preparing for the forthcoming exams. His parents rushed him to the Gandhi Hospital where doctors declared him dead. The victim was the eldest son of the couple and studied in a private school, Domalguda detective inspector C. Sudhakar Rao said.

Eight arrested for consuming drugs

The EAGLE Force arrested eight persons for consuming drugs during a concert by a DJ from Ukraine, in Cyberabad on Saturday. The force also came across a former drug consumer who tested negative.
EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya said said the police had taken action based on credible intelligence, in coordination with Cyberabad police.
Police screened 14 persons of whom eight were found positive for drug consumption. The operation was aimed at deterrence, counselling, and rehabilitation rather than prosecution, Shandilya said.
Five persons voluntarily admitted to consuming drugs, while three initially denied consumption. Upon re-testing using different equipment, the results were reconfirmed as positive.
The police used urine, and saliva testing kits to confirm drug consumption. Though intelligence inputs suggested that more than 100 drug consumers might attend the event, the operation was curtailed to ensure focused, preventive action without disruption to public order, Shandilya said.
The consumers, along with their parents, will be called to Cyberabad Narcotics Police Station for counselling. Steps will be taken to admit them to deaddiction and rehabilitation centres.
Shandilya noted a heartening development: An individual who had earlier been apprehended as a drug consumer tested negative during Saturday’s operation. He told the police had had completely stopped drug consumption.

Sajjanar for Enforcing Zero Drugs Policy

With New Year’s eve approaching, city police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Sunday directed anti-narcotics teams and zonal police to intensify measures to enforce the government’s ‘zero drugs’ policy.

“We are closely monitoring the movements of those accused in drug cases in the last two years,” Sajjanar told a review meeting featuring officials of the H-NEW, task force, Special Branch, West Zone, CCS and other departments. Special teams from immigration and special branch wings were inquiring about new arrivals to the city.

He said the police had mounted a watch at service apartments and hostels, apart from deploying surveillance teams in pubs, hotels, restaurants and places where events will be held. Sajjanar directed officials to prepare a list of drug suppliers and consumers and keep a constant watch on them.

“We have set up check posts and barricades in crowded areas including Maitrivanam, Necklace Road, Tank Bund, KBR Park and other areas where people gather, he said. “We have instructed officers to ensure that the celebrations are held peacefully without any disturbance to the common people in the name of surveillance.”
