Bid to Smuggle Rs 1.4 Cr Banned Drones, Gadgets Foiled at RGIA

Hyderabad: The RGIA vigilance and anti-sabotage teams of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) during frisking of passengers, following the recent
Delhi terror attack, foiled an attempt to smuggle banned drones and electronic goods worth Rs 1.4 crore on Wednesday.
The CISF teams noticed two international passengers behaving suspiciously near the airport area after their arrival from Abu Dhabi. Acting promptly,
the officials detained them and screened their baggage at the domestic arrival exit gate on X-BIS machine, which led to the detection of a large
quantity of undeclared high-value electronic items, including several banned drones, premium smartphones, laptops and other accessories worth around Rs
1.4 crore, a CISF personnel disclosed.
“On questioning, the passengers failed to produce valid purchase documents or import clearance for the recovered goods. Subsequently, our CISF officers
seized the goods and the detained the passengers. The goods have been handed over to the Airport Customs authorities for necessary action as per law.
CISF continues to uphold its commitment to safeguarding national security, integrity of India’s aviation network”, he said.
The passengers have been detained inside the RGIA arrival gates. As per the jurisdiction the case will be investigated by the Customs department in case
of non duty paid goods, SHO RGIA Kankaiah Sampathi said.
Officials are also are checking the background and travel history of the passengers.
