Chowrangee Cultural Platform Debuts with Raag-O-Rang
Hyderabad: Acclaimed vocalist Sounak Chattopadhyay and theatre artist Arpita Chatterjee united to perform ‘Raag-o-Rang’, to mark the inaugural of Chowrangee, new cultural platform, here on Friday. The platform, launched by the Bengal and Beyond Foundation, celebrates India’s artistic heritage through cross-cultural dialogue.
Chattopadhyay with his soothing vocals paid tribute to Mohammad Rafi on his birth centenary blending Hindustani classical music with Bollywood, ghazals, and Rabindranath Tagore’s songs.
Chatterjee presented her solo musical, ‘My Name is Jaan’, which portrays the life of Gauhar Jaan, India’s first gramophone-recorded artist. Performed in English, Hindi, and Bengali, the play focused on Gauhar’s musical brilliance. “Despite her fame and wealth, Gauhar faced challenges but supported India’s freedom struggle at Mahatma Gandhi’s request,” Chatterjee told Deccan Chronicle. She said, the play also reflected Gauhar’s role in India’s freedom struggle.
